Pamela Rose (G4STO). Silent Key – 25th September 1944 – 11th November 2024.  Pam has been a member of the club since the late 1970’s having joined with her late beloved husband Joe, who sadly died suddenly in 1992. Both of them loved the club and the hobby and Pam following his death, was determined to fulfil Joe’s wish by helping to keep the club on ‘an even keel’. John Birkett 1928 – 2022

John Birkett 1928 – 2022 President Lincoln Short Wave Club 1979 to 2022 John was born in Lincoln in September 1928 and lived in Hykeham village. John left school when he was 14 years old he worked for Apex Gravel in Hykeham. During the Second World War he was an apprentice at the AVRO factory at Bracebridge Heath Lincoln training and working on the Iconic Lancaster Bomber.  On leaving Avro in Lincoln John went to London to work for his cousin who was in TV and Radio, maybe that started his passion for the industry. 1946 John got called up … Continue reading →

Fritz (Fred) Bennewitz G6BPH

As you may know mourners have been restricted to close family at funerals so it was not possible for Fred’s friends to attend his service in person but thanks to modern day technology we were able to watch this on the internet.  Below is a copy of the tribute read by Michael, one of Fred’s sons. Fred Bennewitz G6BPH

It is with much sadness that I have to report the sudden death on 5th March of Fred Bennewitz G6BPH; Fred has been a member of.Lincoln Short Wave Club for over 20 years although he hasn’t been able to attend meetings recently as he was his wife Anne’s carer; Anne is now in a Care Home in Saxilby. Fred’s funeral will take place on Monday 30th March at ten past three at Lincoln Crematorium. Jim Stevenson, G0EJQ – Silent Key

Jim Stevenson, G0EJQ Playing about with radios from an early age Jim was interested in radio for most of his life; he sat the RAE in 1984 and gained the callsign G1PCI; all Jim wanted to do was go on HF, ‘dxing’.  Jim took his Morse test at Humber Radio and became G0EJQ in January 1985.  He loved chasing DX on single sideband and working portable and mobile. Peter G1FLL sadly became a silent key on the morning of Sunday 17th December 2017.  Peter had been a member of the Lincoln Short Wave Club since the early nineties when we met at the City Engineers Club in Lincoln.  Peter had been on the committee of the club for many years and was always there helping at Special Event Stations and Contests.  Peter will be sadly missed by all at Lincoln Short Wave Club and by many others with whom he came into contact.  RIP.

Gerry at Poacher 2013 Gerry after being presented with Honorary Life Membership William (Gerry) Duffner, G6KGG, sadly became a silent key on the afternoon of 10th December 2016. Gerry was a honorary life member of Lincoln Short Wave Club where he had been a member since June 1992 (24 years) when we met at the City Engineers Club in Lincoln. Until his illness, Gerry had been on the committee of the club for many years and was the Examination Secretary and an Instructor for the Foundation and Intermediate Courses. Bob G3VRD

Bob Shaw G3VRD 17th July 1935 – 17th August 2015 LSWC Member 1974 – 2015 Robert (Bob) Shaw G3VRD, sadly became a silent key in the early hours of Monday 17th August aged 80 years. He was an honorary life member of Lincoln Shortwave Club where he had enjoyed continuous membership since 1974 (41 years). He had undertaken many key position in the Club and at various times had been Chairman and Treasurer. Chris Jones – G0PIO SK

It is with much sadness that we hear of the passing of Club Chairman, Chris Jones – G0PIO. Chris passed away on the 23rd November 2012. The members of Lincoln Short Wave Club send our condolences to Chris’s family. Chris joined the Club when he moved to the area to take up a post with BBC Radio Lincolnshire in November 1980. Chris, then G6AJL, was Secretary of Lincoln Short Wave Club and was there to help with the first LINCOLN HAMFEST in 1981. Sid May ET3SID

It is sad to report that Sid has passed away in Ethiopia. Sid, a former member of LSWC has worked in Africa for a number of years. He was instrumental in setting up the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society and getting ET3AA on the air. LSWC and the National Hamfest donated a FT450 transceiver, which is the station’s main rig. He enlisted the help of a US DX group who were able to get a large number of students at the  University of Ethiopia through the US licence exams including some to Extra Class.
