Lincolnshire Wolds Railway Talk
This week, we held a talk about the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at Ludborough. The club will be at Ludborough for Railways on the Air at the end of September, using the call sign GB0LWR. This will be the final Special Event Station (SES) of the year that we have planned.
We had a great turnout, and many questions were answered after the talk. Additionally, we live-streamed the event for the first time, which was a great success. We plan to invest in equipment so the club can stream more special events and talks in the future.
The railway is located in a beautiful area of Lincolnshire, nestled between the Wolds and the coast, just a short distance from Grimsby, the seaside resort of Cleethorpes, and the historic market town of Louth. The railway operates on a stretch of line that was once part of the Great Northern route from Boston to Grimsby.
After the last section of the line was closed by British Railways in 1980, a preservation society was formed with the aim of restoring it. Today, heritage steam trains once again run between Ludborough and North Thoresby, and work is currently underway to extend the line southwards towards Louth. What visitors see at the railway today is a result of the time and effort invested by a small but dedicated group of volunteers over many years.
