Fred Bennewitz G6BPH

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 19/03/2020 by G4STO19/03/2020

It is with much sadness that I have to report the sudden death on 5th March of Fred Bennewitz G6BPH; Fred has been a member of.Lincoln Short Wave Club for over 20 years although he hasn’t been able to attend meetings recently as he was his wife Anne’s carer; Anne is now in a Care Home in Saxilby. Fred’s funeral will take place on Monday 30th March at ten past three at Lincoln Crematorium. Anyone that knew Fred is welcome to go to the funeral but his family will understand if you can’t get under these current circumstances; if you … Continue reading →

QO100 Portable Setup Testing

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 09/03/2020 by G4STO06/02/2021

QO100 portable setup testing at LSWC, using 80cm dish, dual band dish feed and SG labs 2.4GHz transverter.  Although signals were a little weak (possibly due to sun noise and cloud), a signal test was transmitted by Andy Gibbons, M0IYE on the 2.4GHz uplink and received on the 10GHZ downlink. The portable setup will be used at public events.  A larger dish will be installed at the shack, but until then visitors to the shack may use the portable setup weather permitting.  Andy G0FVI

Another busy Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 27/01/2020 by G4STO22/02/2020

The mast for the satellite project was erected in December so this week Stephen M5SJM, Richard M7RKK and Les G1LQB made sure the antenna for the project would be kept safe until needed; it also means it doesn’t have to be moved in and out of the shack when we have meetings.

Building parabolic dish feeds for the bands 23cm and 13cm using minimal tooling

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 23/12/2019 by G4STO23/12/2019

Club member Andy G0FVI has had an article published in Scatterpoint, the UK microwave group newsletter. The article is about building parabolic dish feeds for the bands 23cm and 13cm using minimal tooling. Andy decided early in 2019 to have a go at EME on 23/13 cm plus putting together a station to work through QO100, the first geostationary amateur satellite. Constructing dish feeds for these frequencies normally involves finding someone with a lathe to accurately cut metal to precise dimensions. Searching around for a local firm to do the cutting did not yield any takers despite many of these … Continue reading →

Christmas Social Evening

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 18/12/2019 by G4STO23/12/2019

There was a good turnout for the club Christmas Social evening with 29 out of the 38 expected guests enjoying a finger buffet and seasonal quiz!!  Andy M0KED and Linda were second and third on the scene and helped Pam G4STO get the food out of her boot and on to the tables. It wasn’t long before other members arrived and set out the hall ready for the buffet which was followed by a Christmas Quiz, taken off the internet by Pam; apparently it was difficult. The winning team with six out of fourteen questions right and after 11 tie-break … Continue reading →
