Continue reading →Tonight Jason G7KPM gave a 10 minute talk on his home brew J-Pole dual band antenna; the design was taken from the ARRL Manual. The J-Pole is an effective, low cost antenna made from bits available from Birketts and the local DIY store. This antenna will go well with the new Baofeng dual band radios recently ordered by the club and is a possible project for future candidates on the Intermediate Course. Other topics in the ’10 minute talk’ category were Potholes – Les G1LQB and Wine and Whisky – everyone.
Continue reading →The first named invigilator was in trepidation mode for her first ‘on-line’ examination; would everything be as straight forward as the paper based exams? Yes. There was a slight hiccup at the beginning; she had forgotten where the PIN number was to be found and she had left her paperwork at home but Peter (2E0FGA) the second invigilator was more organised and had his copy with him so this was soon sorted and the exam began only to be followed shortly afterwards by the Model Railway people delivering equipment to their room; the wind was so strong the adjoining door … Continue reading →

Open to both LSWC members and non-members we meet on air at 20:00 every Thursday. We use Lincoln repeater GB3LM the first Thursday of each month and have simplex nets on the other Thursdays. On Thursday 15th February 2018, club members Roger (G3PVU), Les (G1LQB), Steve (M5ZZZ), Alistair (M0TEF) and Peter (2E0FGA) installed the Hy-Gain TH-5, 5 element, 3 band (10m, 15m and 20m) beam antenna at the Lincoln Shortwave Club site. Pam (G4STO) kindly prepared lunch for the team. Alistair (M0TEF) reported performance was good with some big signals coming in from the states. An added bonus was an air display from the Red Arrows, who are based at RAF Scampton. Find out more about the Red arrows here.
Continue reading →It’s Wednesday 14th February and whilst many people are wining and dining for valentines, Lincoln Shortwave Club have had a quiz followed by pancakes. Quiz master Steve, M5ZZZ organised the quiz and read out the 15 questions that were related to the club and local area. Coming in first with 100% of answers correct was Les G1LQB who was rewarded with a bottle of wine. Second place was father and son team Adrian M0NWK and Dylan with 11 points who were rewarded with cans of coke. Continue reading →Lincoln Shortwave Club is delighted to announce to members that with agreement from the committee it has just purchased an SDRplay RSP2 SDR receiver for the club shack. The RSP2 receiver covers 1KHz to 2GHz (VLF > Microwaves> and besides having three software selectable antenna inputs it also has an amazing 10MHz bandwidth. Using a large number of readily available software applications with the RSP2 makes this an extremely capable general coverage receiver.
