Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 20/02/2016 by G4STO27/10/2022

Steve M5ZZZ putting the finishing touches (fitting the knobs) to the kitchen cupboards while some members take a well earned rest from the Intermediate Course and others taking a rest from watching Steve work. The moment Steve realised the knobs weren’t level. After months of talking about it the cupboards are now fitted and filled.  Just need to clear the tops down and start using the contents of the cupboards.

It isn’t all radio at the shack; these photos show M5ZZZ doing a bit of tiling and G3PVU and G1FLL contemplating cutting an additional shelf for the kitchen cupboard.    Thanks Geoff M6YBG for the photos taken on his phone without a flash.

High Altitude Balloons

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 30/01/2016 by G4STO27/10/2022

On Wednesday 27th January Andrew Garratt M0NRD, Chairman of the South Kesteven Amateur Club, gave an interesting and informative presentation on how to fly high altitude balloons.  Of particular interest was the “Pig in Space” balloon launched at last year’s National Hamfest and the earlier Eggsplorer-1 “Egg in Space” mission. Andrew described the processes involved in design of the payload and trackers.  He also described how to prepare for a flight, obtaining clearance and everything involved in predicting the flight, tracking it and retrieving it. The pictures below show the preparations for the launch, the launch and pig in ‘space’ … Continue reading →

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE SHACK

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 15/12/2015 by G4STO27/10/2022

On Saturday the 5th December it was decided to have a bit of a “do” the following Saturday and everyone should bring a plate of food, you know, what you can eat and perhaps a little more for those that knew nothing about it!!  The first photo shows the table at the beginning, this was added to during the morning and the second photo what was left; this will be eaten on Wednesday evening.

CLUB CHRISTMAS DINNER

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 10/12/2015 by G4STO27/10/2022

The pictures below show members of the club enjoying their Christmas Dinner, this year at the Carpenters Arms at Fiskerton.  It should be noted for future events that our members rarely remember what they have ordered and reminders should be given to them on arrival at the venue.  Thanks to Sue Gray for sorting this out.

Construction Contest

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/12/2015 by G4STO27/10/2022

The Construction Contest this year was won by Peter M0EJL with his DSO138 Digital Oscilloscope which he built from a kit.  I understand the circuit is simple, reliable and inexpensive; possibly a Saturday morning project for our newly licenced members.   (I notice there are some on eBay for £13 including postage). Thanks Steve M5ZZZ for the photos.

Lincoln’s Town Crier visits the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 06/12/2015 by G4STO27/10/2022

It doesn’t have to be a radio related talk to keep our members enthralled.  We were delighted to welcome Karen Crow the Town Crier for the City of Lincoln to the club on the 25th November when she gave us an interesting talk on her duties as Town Crier and how she got into public speaking. Thanks Chris 2E0NDT for the photo.
