Another fun packed day at Poacher

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 31/07/2022 by G4STO31/07/2022

Cars all loaded we set off for Poacher at around 10 o’clock this morning. Work started on the receiving aerials and then we moved over to the masts where we have a fine array of aerials. We have the TH5 (I think that’s what it is) and a co-linear for 2M and 70CMS. On the other mast we have beams for the serious frequencies, 23CMS television, 70CMS and 2M, Sunday is the start of the Scouts and Guides visiting our set-up, they will get an introduction to amateur radio, listen to QSOs and send greetings messages, probably send their name … Continue reading →

Getting ready for Poacher

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/07/2022 by G4STO30/07/2022

86% of the club missed a fun filled afternoon getting ready for Poacher, Lincolnshire’s International Scout and Guide Jamboree which is once again being held on the Lincolnshire Showground.   Scouts and Guides aged 10-17 inclusive from around the world can attend Poacher and we anticipate between 400 and 500 will visit the Lincoln Short Wave Club marquee to see what amateur radio is about.  Members helping set up were:  Steve M5ZZZ, Pam G4STO, Andy M0IYE, Graham M1DHV, Peter M0EJL, Andy M0KED, Stuart 2E0SFK, Bob G3VEV, Les G1LQB, Marc M7DEU. G4DBS, our guest member, from RAF Waddington ARC was also helping.  … Continue reading →

Saturday 9th July at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 11/07/2022 by G4STO11/07/2022

In readiness for the Club going to Poacher 2022, Andy M0IYE, Les G1LQB, Steve M5ZZZ, Graham M1DHV and David M6OYN got the ‘big’ tent out to make sure all parts were there.  It took a fair time to put the bits together, all tent erectors were novices at the job, but they got there in the end.  They didn’t put the canvas on, they knew where that went. For those that don’t know, Poacher is Lincolnshire’s International Scout and Guide Jamboree and it’s back again for the 11th time in 2022 and runs from 30th July to 6th August. Members … Continue reading →

EK Visit 7th July 2022

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/07/2022 by G4STO07/07/2022

Lincoln Shortwave Club Chairman Steve M5ZZZ and David G1WVO travelled across to East Kirkby this Thursday.  After a convivial coffee in the NAAFI they opened the Radio room at East Kirkby. Steve took his own Yeasu FT487 radio and connected it up and a precautionary SWR check was carried out on the new wire antenna which proved to be excellent. It was amazing that as Steve then tuned through the bands there was no apparent noise on the bands which we have been dogged with since reopening the station after lockdown. Steve and David heard only a few stations on … Continue reading →

Saturday morning and afternoon at the Bomb Dump

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 03/07/2022 by G4STO03/07/2022

A disappointing turnout from the club for VHF NFD but those that did turn up had an enjoyable weekend, I think!!!  Unfortunately I had double booked for Sunday so those members staying over night had to get their own breakfasts.

Saturday morning at the shack and a visit to G7AVU

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 28/06/2022 by G4STO28/06/2022

A week ago an electric winch was fitted to the mast to make life easier for our aged members!! When I got to the club last Saturday Steve from the village hall was painting the hall and this week’s working party was replacing the HF beam by a newer TH5 Thunderbird beam; let’s hope it is put to good use. The old beam is to be used for contest work.    After leaving the club I visited Bob G7AVU and was pleasantly surprised, he remembered me!! I took him a digital photo frame and he recognised several members of the … Continue reading →

Another Saturday morning at the club

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 18/06/2022 by G4STO18/06/2022

As usual when I arrived at the club this morning work had already started; today it was again on the aerials and trailer mast in readiness for VHF/NFD and Poacher.  I couldn’t stay until the end as it started to rain and I was on two wheels.

Wednesday night at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 08/06/2022 by G4STO08/06/2022

Thank goodness for light nights and fine weather.. On Wednesday 8th June a working party was formed to fit a new winch on the mast; they had a lot of encouragement from other members of the club.

Dave being a gluten for punishment is also organising for next May the ##80DAM event where amateur radio clubs in this country and in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and America with connections to the Dambusters will commemorate operation chastise. As our club does every year but on an international scale for this … Continue reading →

Saturday at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 04/06/2022 by G4STO04/06/2022

Another fruitful Saturday morning at the shack, this morning it was cleaning the trailer masts, which haven’t been used for over two years, ready for VHF NFD and Poacher in July all we need now are volunteers for setting up and operating the stations followed by packing up afterwards.
