ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 18/12/2012 by G4STO27/10/2022

I think, the shortest AGM in the club’s history (well in the last 30 years), just 45 minutes. We now have a new Committee and this is as follows: Chairman – Mark, M0ZLE Secretary – Pam, G4STO Treasurer, Roger, G3PVU Activity Officer – Steve, M5ZZZ Ordinary Committee Members – G1LQB, G6KGG, G4XFC, M0SIY, G4UHZ You will see from the above we have a couple of new members who it is hoped will have some new ideas for the future of our club. Pam G4STO Secretary

Wednesday 12th December 2012

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 15/12/2012 by G4STO27/10/2022

Wednesday was a day of mixed emotions for members of Lincoln Short Wave Club. We started the day by attending Chris’ funeral and whilst it was a sad occasion we were able to celebrate the relatively short life of Chris. Penri his elder son spoke of his father’s career in broadcasting whilst Huw, the younger of his sons, reflected on Chris’ role of father. Simon M0SIY then reminisced on Chris’ career with the Lincoln Short Wave Club. The wake was held at the Stags Head on Newport. In the evening members and spouses then attended the Poacher on Bunkers Hill … Continue reading →

Chris Jones – G0PIO SK

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 24/11/2012 by G4STO27/10/2022

It is with much sadness that we hear of the passing of Club Chairman, Chris Jones – G0PIO. Chris passed away on the 23rd November 2012. The members of Lincoln Short Wave Club send our condolences to Chris’s family. Chris joined the Club when he moved to the area to take up a post with BBC Radio Lincolnshire in November 1980. Chris, then G6AJL, was Secretary of Lincoln Short Wave Club and was there to help with the first LINCOLN HAMFEST in 1981. Like others before him, Chris drifted away from the club but returned when we moved to our … Continue reading →

Worked All Britain Awards

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 02/10/2012 by G4XFC27/10/2022

As some members will know, G5FZ has been quite successful  in some recent Worked All Britain Contests. However, we can now report that Bob, G4PDF has received a number of their awards. After a trawl of old logbooks etc, he found he had enough stations worked to make claims for several awards. You do not need QSL cards for the awards so that makes it easy to administer. Well done Bob. Bob’s new awards are: Large squares III (Certificate) Large squares II (Endorsement) Bookholders Series 3 – 100 (Certificate) Bookholders Series 4 – 100 (Certificate) Bookholders Series … Continue reading →

G5FZ Monitored from the USA on 10m AM

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 30/09/2012 by G4XFC27/10/2022

I managed to try some AM during a 10m opening on 30 September and it was a great experience to hear so many AM stations from the US on the band. Rob, W1AEX sent me an e-mail shortly after our  QSO. It was great to hear you today on 10 meter AM. The attached mp3 file is a recording of the very fine G5FZ club station as we chatted today. Toward the end of the audio recording you can hear a bit of splatter from the station that was below us, but your signal was very strong so it was … Continue reading →

Sid May ET3SID

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 25/09/2012 by G4XFC27/10/2022

It is sad to report that Sid has passed away in Ethiopia. Sid, a former member of LSWC has worked in Africa for a number of years. He was instrumental in setting up the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society and getting ET3AA on the air. LSWC and the National Hamfest donated a FT450 transceiver, which is the station’s main rig. He enlisted the help of a US DX group who were able to get a large number of students at the  University of Ethiopia through the US licence exams including some to Extra Class. He has a number of very prominent … Continue reading →

Alan Wiles, G4GDC

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 03/09/2012 by G4XFC27/10/2022

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Club member Alan Wiles, G4GDC. Alan passed away at home overnight. The members of Lincoln Short Wave Club send our condolences to Alan’s family and partner Helen. Alan has been unwell for some time and recently had a short time in hospital. It looked as though he was gradually improving so it has come as a great shock that we receive this sad news. Alan has been a great friend to the Club, not only with help and assistance but with the use of his facilities … Continue reading →

Au Revoir Jeremie

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 16/08/2012 by G4XFC27/10/2022

A meeting tinged with a little sadness on Wednesday 15th August as we said goodbye to Jeremie F4ARU/MoKWP. Jeremie has been a member of the Club for three years or so. We have benefited greatly from his enthusiasm and expertise. He has been unstinting with his time and advice as many a member can tell you. His enthusiasm for field days and contesting has been infectious. It was mainly Jeremie and Roger, G3PVU who did the donkey work assembling the Club’s SteppIR antenna which sits on our mast at Aisthorpe. As a mark of our thanks, we have awarded him … Continue reading →

Another resounding success at Lincoln Short Wave Club and it wasn’t a contest!!

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 27/07/2012 by G4STO27/10/2022

On Wednesday 25th July about 30 members and xyl’s enjoyed our summer bar-be-cue night when Pam G4STO and Steve M5ZZZ cooked burgers and sausages for all present. Pam was first to arrive followed closely by Steve in order to get the bar-be-cue set up in the BSA Club car park. In no time members and guests were flocking up ready to partake in our delicacies, well the burgers and sausages but this time there was a treat for those up to the challenge – Pam’s Autumn Fruit Chutney and Green Tomato Chutney; not sure whether participants were being polite or … Continue reading →
