ANTENNA MODELLING

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 01/09/2016 by G4STO27/10/2022

Using his ‘home brew ‘Tesla coil’ spark generator and a fluorescent tube, Brian Hiley (M0YXB) showed how electromagnetic energy is transmitted wirelessly through free space. This simple but effective demonstration served as a very effective introduction to his talk on Antenna Modelling, to an audience of some 20 radio amateurs gathered at the LSWC HQ in Aisthorpe on Wednesday evening 31st August.                                                      The basics and application of the MMANA-GAL Antenna Analysing tool was the core of Brian’s both fascinating and informative well illustrated presentation.   He explained how the programme, which is freely available for download from the Internet, … Continue reading →

High Altitude Balloons

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 30/01/2016 by G4STO27/10/2022

On Wednesday 27th January Andrew Garratt M0NRD, Chairman of the South Kesteven Amateur Club, gave an interesting and informative presentation on how to fly high altitude balloons.  Of particular interest was the “Pig in Space” balloon launched at last year’s National Hamfest and the earlier Eggsplorer-1 “Egg in Space” mission. Andrew described the processes involved in design of the payload and trackers.  He also described how to prepare for a flight, obtaining clearance and everything involved in predicting the flight, tracking it and retrieving it. The pictures below show the preparations for the launch, the launch and pig in ‘space’ … Continue reading →

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 06/12/2015 by G4STO27/10/2022

Thanks Chris 2E0NDT for the photo.

Mike 2E0YYY talks about SOTA

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 03/02/2013 by G4XFC27/10/2022

The club was given a very interesting talk about how Summits on the Air works and the difference between the “Activator” of the summit (Mountain Goat) and the “Chaser”  (Shack Sloth) by Mike 2E0YYY a prolific “Mountain Goat” himself.
