Saturday at the shack

Saturday the 13th of November at the shack. We had a good turn out at the shack this morning and as well as drinking lots of tea and setting the world to rights. We were able to move all of the equipment that had been left outside during the green shed move into the green shed, now located next to the radio shack. As well as move all the stuff that was blocking access to the loft into the green shed. Many thanks for all the hard work too Les G1LQB, Pete 2E0FGA, Steve M5ZZZ, Dave G1WVO. Daron 2E0GFY.

Another Saturday morning at the shack

When I arrived at the shack this morning Andy M0IYE had already got stuck in distributing the gravel in the parking area; sweat was rolling off me just looking!!  When Stephen M5SJM arrived he levelled the gravel, they certainly earned their cuppa this morning.  I got stuck in finishing off cleaning the BBQ ready for the 28th and then cleaning the chairs; they had been weathered for over two years!!!

Saturday afternoon at the Shack

On Saturday 21st September Ian G4EVK gave a briefing to helpers from local clubs on the National Hamfest which is being held on the Newark and Nottinghamshire Showground on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th September. After the briefing Pam put on sausages and burgers for those present including Dora the Jack Russell!!!  For a change the weather was perfect.

Saturday Morning Down the Shack

Another Saturday morning of work took place down at the LSWC shack on Saturday (31st Aug). First of all the large trailer mast was pulled out and the smaller trailer mast moved into its new position (Roughly). Stephen, M5SJM, and Andy, M0IYE started to clear the area to the side of the shed. This is in preparation for the clubs other shed to come down and be on the same Site as the shack. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

A few items to cross off the ‘matters arising’ at our next Committee meeting.  Les G1LQB and Stuart M7RSF finished off the refurbishment of the trailer; it looks like new now.  Alistair M0TEF, Stephen M5SJM and Si M0SIY repaired and put the Doublet back up And Alistair and Stephen fitted the new capacitor to the Gap Eagle; it will be tested at Fir Park over the weekend.

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE SHACK

A lot gets done on a Saturday morning at Lincoln Short Wave Club and this morning was no exception.  I started my morning washing the chairs ready for the sausage and burger night on Wednesday and then got the BBQ out. Another week it could well be the start of the satellite project.

Hy-Gain TH5 Antenna Installation

On Thursday 15th February 2018, club members Roger (G3PVU), Les (G1LQB), Steve (M5ZZZ), Alistair (M0TEF) and Peter (2E0FGA) installed the Hy-Gain TH-5, 5 element, 3 band (10m, 15m and 20m) beam antenna at the Lincoln Shortwave Club site. Pam (G4STO) kindly prepared lunch for the team. Alistair (M0TEF) reported performance was good with some big signals coming in from the states. An added bonus was an air display from the Red Arrows, who are based at RAF Scampton. Find out more about the Red arrows here.

Quiz night and pancakes

It’s Wednesday 14th February and whilst many people are wining and dining for valentines, Lincoln Shortwave Club have had a quiz followed by pancakes. Quiz master  Steve, M5ZZZ organised the quiz and read out the 15 questions that were related to the club and local area. Coming in first with 100% of answers correct was Les G1LQB who was rewarded with a bottle of wine. Second place was father and son team Adrian M0NWK and Dylan with 11 points who were rewarded with cans of coke. SDRplay RSP2

Lincoln Shortwave Club is delighted to announce to members that with agreement from the committee it has just purchased an SDRplay RSP2 SDR receiver for the club shack. The RSP2 receiver covers 1KHz to 2GHz (VLF > Microwaves> and besides having three software selectable antenna inputs it also has an amazing 10MHz bandwidth. Using a large number of readily available software applications with the RSP2 makes this an extremely capable general coverage receiver.
