Poacher 2017 International Jamboree

Following the success of the 2013 Poacher International Jamboree, LSWC were asked if they would put on a station for Poacher 2017; Ian G4EVK Chairman, Pam G4STO Secretary, Steve M5ZZZ Activity Officer and Les G1LQB Education with help from Barry G4DBS from RAF Waddington ARC set up the station ready for the start of Poacher on Sunday 30th July; potentially 500 scouts will be introduced to amateur radio over the week.  Three of the visitors to our station today were Andy G0MNI from Grimsby, Andrew M0OOO and Mark M6WMS both from RAF Waddington ARC all three are working at Poacher … Continue reading →

Boultham Park Summer Fair

On the 8th July members of the Club made their annual ‘Pilgrimage’ to Boultham Summer Fair where they put on an Amateur Radio demonstration.   It wasn’t all plain sailing; the frame on the Coleman Shelter was broken and there was no power lead but thanks to G1LQBs Aladdin’s Cave a temporary ‘mend’ was made to the shelter and with the expertise of G7KPM and M6TSJ a power lead was made.   The station was visited by many members of the public including the Mayor and Mayoress of Lincoln and the City Sheriff.  Several former club members also made their annual visit and … Continue reading →

FIR PARK SPECIAL EVENT STATION

Yes, it was a wet start to our day and certainly very muddy under foot but that didn’t dampen our enthusiasm for putting on the Special Event Station at Fir Park Free Show near Market Rasen.  Members of the club putting on the Special Event Station were – Andy M0KED, Pam G4STO, Les G1LQB, Peter G1FLL, Stephen M6TSJ, Jason G7KPM, Tom G4OSB and Ian G4XFC.  Our Regional Manager Jim G0EJQ dropped by and had several contacts on VHF; we also had help from Andy M0OOO from the RAF Waddington Club. Mills on the Air

ELLIS MILL, LINCOLN Once again a few members of LSWC took part in ‘Mills on Air’ and put on a special event station at Ellis Mill in Lincoln using the callsign GB5EM.   The transceiver used was an FT847 and used a dual band dipole and it really was a portable station as it was battery powered. An enjoyable day was had by Steve M5ZZZ, Steve G1PPP, Les G1LQB, Andy M0KED and Keith G0RQQ. The photo shows Steve G1PPP working other Mills on th Air stations.

Bloultham Park Fair

I met Steve M5ZZZ at the shack at 0830 on Saturday to pick up the equipment for Boultham Park Fair; why do we always leave everything we do to the last minute? I got there early so emptied the shed to get to the generator then, after getting the generator out, replaced everything I had got out only to see the white board we needed behind what I had put back, it stayed there! Dambuster Memorial Station GB5DAM

OPERATION CHASTISE On the 16th/17th May 1943 19 Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron RAF took off from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire armed with the now famous Bouncing Bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. The raid was led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC. The aircraft took off in three groups. Group One led by Gibson took off in three waves of three aircraft at ten minute intervals starting at 21.39. Heckington Windmill GB2HWM on your left and as usual Ellis Mill GB5EM pictured to your right. Site nearly set up and getting ready for the Scouts and Guides Communication Badge instruction which starts tomorrow Sunday 28th of July. Site set up by Mark M0ZLE, Dave M0KWM, Pete G1FLL, Les G1LQB, Pam G4STO, Gerry G6KGG, Ian G4XFC, Peter M0EJL, James G0EUN, Bob G7AVU and Steve M5ZZZ. We will be operating on HF and VHF all week and looking for stations that would like to exchange greetings messages from the Scouts. The station will be active from 0900 to 1700 each day.

GB70DAM Special Memorial Station.

As most of you are aware 16-17th May 2013 was the 70th Anniversary of the Dambusters raid. Steve M5ZZZand the dedicated few usually run GB5DAM but this year we felt we needed a more significant callsign and after much wrangling Steve received the NOV for GB70DAM. The station was set up and ready to roll by 11am with Bob G7AVU kindly making a 23cm stream possible so people all round the world could watch live via the GB3VL stream on the BATC website.
