Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 26/03/2013 by G4XFC26/08/2025

Built during 1956 – 1962 the Eddystone 730/4 is a professional commercial receiver based on the 680X  with 15 valves, 2 RF stages, 2 IF stages (450kc/s), BFO, IF cathode follower output, variable IF selectivity, xtal filter, xtal calibrator, adjustable scale, noise limiter, S-meter, audio filter for CW, fully tropicalised. Cost at time of manufacture £230. This receiver was ordered by the Ministry of Defense in large quantities and used by the Royal Signals The opportunity arose for me to purchase an Eddystone 730/4 spares or repair from the family of a Silent Key at a reasonable price, so I … Continue reading →

RDXC 2013…..

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 22/03/2013 by M5SJM26/08/2025

Saturday 15th March brought about one of my personal favourites in the contest calendar ,this along with ARRL DX are in my opinion more fun…As we will see things nearly went to plan apart from the huge CME that was as the contest started hurtling its way towards good old planet earth… ‘thanks for that Sol’!! Well, things started off great with the blocking of the frequency we intended to use at start of the contest . I started calling a general CQ at 11:00z beaming Russia 50 degrees ish and this is where the fun began. First caller in the bag a … Continue reading →

ARRL DX PHONE CONTEST 2013……

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 19/03/2013 by M5SJM26/08/2025

2nd and 3rd of March 2013 saw the annual ARRL DX 48hr  Contest. This contest is maybe one of the easier contests in respect that we can only work Stateside/Canadian stations. Basically point beam to 300 degrees and call !! I decided due to lack of operators to limit our involvement much the same as last year trying to optimise running time during daylight instead of cramming onto 40m in the night with most stations working splits ie. listening above 7.200 and operating below as you know states have a higher 40m band plan, it is allowed to receive on lets … Continue reading →

Atlanta Radio Club hosted an evening with Martin F. Jue and have posted a series of videos on You Tube where Martin gives a series of demonstration on how you can use MFJ’s Antenna Analysers. Well worth watching for those who like to play about with antennas and a list of the 20 videos can be found here.  More video’s of the MFJ Antenna Analyser can be found here Thanks to Des G4UHZ for pointing me in the direction of these links.

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 27/02/2013 by G4XFC27/10/2022

Due to a significant upgrade to the Gallery section of the website, some pictures in the posts will not be visible. This is an ongoing process of updating the website and some other things are not working properly, I am busy sorting it all out now and hope to have it all fixed soon. Ian G4XFC

Morse Training Update

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 13/02/2013 by G4XFC13/02/2013

I am pleased that some members of the club are now having CW QSO’s on the bands, I have put information on the Morse Crusade website for anyone wishing to start learning Morse. There is a large interest for learning Morse now, as I have just given a successful Morse Presentation at Sheffield ARC and I will be doing another Morse Presentation at  Pontefract DARC in June. Remember that I am not a Morse Trainer as you are able to do that at home on your computer, I am a Morse Mentor and I am willing to help you through … Continue reading →

Mike 2E0YYY talks about SOTA

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 03/02/2013 by G4XFC27/10/2022

The club was given a very interesting talk about how Summits on the Air works and the difference between the “Activator” of the summit (Mountain Goat) and the “Chaser”  (Shack Sloth) by Mike 2E0YYY a prolific “Mountain Goat” himself. It is well organised and has a web database to confirm contacts for the point system. Activated summits have different point due to the accessibility of the summit rather than the height of it. By going to SOTAwatch2 it gives a list of active summits marked in red and it is updated in real time. the page also lists advance notice … Continue reading →

Contest Season

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 01/02/2013 by G4STO27/10/2022

Tuesday 29th January started the contest season for the Lincoln Short Wave Club with a leisurely 70MHz UKAC. The UKAC contests are ideal for newcomers to the hobby giving a relaxed introduction to contesting. This photo shows Tim, M6ZRT, at the mike being mentored by Steve, M5ZZZ. Chris, M6NDT, was making a manual log; Chris prefers more of a ‘rag chew’ but assures me he will have a go at the next UKAC. Bob, G7AVU, was also there and very concerned about the aerials which were turning freely in the high winds; this made it difficult to work other contesters … Continue reading →
