Wednesday night at the shack

A nice plaque to display at the East Kirkby shack.

Dave Bloomfield G0KUC the man behind the super successful GB80LAN Special event stations that took place in March this year commemorating the first operational use of the Lancaster Bomber has kindly donated a Plaque for us to display at East Kirkby marking our clubs participation in the event. Dave being a gluten for punishment is also organising for next May the ##80DAM event where amateur radio clubs in this country and in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and America with connections to the Dambusters will commemorate operation chastise. Saturday at the shack

Another fruitful Saturday morning at the shack, this morning it was cleaning the trailer masts, which haven’t been used for over two years, ready for VHF NFD and Poacher in July all we need now are volunteers for setting up and operating the stations followed by packing up afterwards.

John Birkett 1928 – 2022

John Birkett 1928 – 2022 President Lincoln Short Wave Club 1979 to 2022 John was born in Lincoln in September 1928 and lived in Hykeham village. John left school when he was 14 years old he worked for Apex Gravel in Hykeham. During the Second World War he was an apprentice at the AVRO factory at Bracebridge Heath Lincoln training and working on the Iconic Lancaster Bomber.  On leaving Avro in Lincoln John went to London to work for his cousin who was in TV and Radio, maybe that started his passion for the industry. 1946 John got called up … Continue reading →

Many thanks to the training guys, Les G1LQB, Peter 2E0FGA and Martin M0TNM for all their hard work and giving up their time in running the Courses and Exams for the Club.

OPERATION CHASTISE

On the 16/17th May 2022 the Lincoln Short Wave Club operated a Special Event Station GB5DAM in memory of the Air Crew and German civilians killed during the now famous 617 Squadron’s raid on the great Ruhr dams of Germany   On the16th/17th May 1943 19 Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron RAF took off from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire armed with the now famous Bouncing Bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. Mills on the Air 2022

This Weekend the club took part in Mills on the Air by activating Ellis Mill in Lincoln. We started out the day with a healthy breakfast after having to arrive early due to the Cycle race being held in the city. So it was off to the local café. But soon it was back to the job in hand and now the gate was opened up it was time to get the station set up. Our spring surplus equipment sale went off without a hitch.

Our spring surplus equipment sale went off without a hitch thanks to the hard work of lots of club members. Steve M5ZZZ / G6TVP doing double duty as hotdog chef and auctioneer. The sale put a good bit of money into club funds and a good day was had by all who attended.

Spring surplus equipment sale.

Our spring used equipment sale is being held next Saturday the 23rd of April in the Village hall Aisthorpe , Village Hall lane, LN12SG Booking in of your used equipment to go in the auction starts at 12 midday and the sale starts at 2pm. Anyone bringing a very large amount of equipment to go in the sale please arrive with plenty of time for us to ticket it all. Usual refreshments will be available.

The Clubs Spring Rally was a big success.

Our Club spring Rally at the Festival hall Market Rasen worked really well. Fantastic organisation by Steve M5ZZZ and Graham M1DHV with Graham even getting his Wife and Daughter helping out. As well as being a day enjoyed by everyone it made a Very nice bit of cash for the club. The traders and visitors all seemed well pleased with the day. We all agreed it is something we should do twice a year in the future. Next time with the addition of a bring and buy probably.
