Antenna work on a very cold Foggy Saturday morning at the Club and news on the first special event station of the year at the International bomber command centre Lincoln.

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 15/01/2022 by M5SJM21/01/2022

A very cold and foggy morning at the club today 15/01/2022. While the less hardy members retreated to the shack a group of members helped Daron 2E0GFY to finish and tune the 20m and 17m flower pot antennas he has made to use for small footprint portable operation with a 12m fiberglass pole and a car drive on mount. Ready for operation when he is out with the clubs portable group. Members braving the cold and working on the antennas were Daron 2E0GFY, Andy M0IYE, Les G1LBQ, Steve M5ZZZ, and David M6OYN. As a test call David M6OYN worked into … Continue reading →

Operation Chastise GB5DAM.

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 03/06/2021 by G4STO26/08/2025

On Monday 17th May Steve M5ZZZ, Andy M0IYE and Stephen M5SJM operated GB5DAM a SES memorial station from the Club to remember all those who lost their lives during operation Chastise. Chastise was the code name for the now famous 617 SDQ raid on the Rurh Valley dams. We are not only remembering the brave RAF Aircrew Crew who died but also the German civilians and hundreds of forced labour from all over Europe. Unfortunately a mixture of equipment failure and poor conditions on the bands stopped us making as many contacts as we would have liked.  For further information about Operation … Continue reading →

On the weekend of the 8th & 9th June the LSWC were once again at Fir Park for the Fir Park Show 2019. Using the call sign GB5FPS we were active on the usual HF and VHF / UHF bands. The weather reports this time were not the most favourable but we pressed on getting all the kit ready on the Wednesday before. The kit was collected from the shack on the Friday by Les, G1LQB, and taken over to Fir Park. After getting the masts ready for raising he was soon joined by Stephen, M5SJM, who thought it best … Continue reading →

GB5DAM Dambusters Memorial Station

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/05/2019 by Steve26/08/2025

We once again operated GB5DAM a station to remember the RAF aircrew, German civilians and POW’s killed during Operation Chastise, the now famous Dambusters raid. RAF 617 Squadrons raid on the Ruhr Dams, using the bouncing bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. We started operating at 21.20 the time the first wave of Lancaster Bomber took off from RAF Scampton, The first contact was Bob VP8LP in the Falkland Islands on 20m, then as is tradition we began the run on 40m which within 2 calls created a huge pile up ( thanks for the cluster spots!). Around 2 hours into … Continue reading →

The Club was there from Friday afternoon through to Monday evening of the August Bank holiday weekend.   Friday Friday afternoon Les G1LQB, Peter 2E0FGA, Stephen 2E0SSM, Steve M5ZZZ set off for FirPark from their various starting locations.
