Another fun day at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 19/06/2021 by G4STO04/07/2021

Today I fitted leaf guards to the downpipes.  When I cleaned the gutters out a couple of weeks ago there was about a foot of composted leaves blocking the pipes. Andy M0IYE and Les G1LQB measured the shack and paint was then ordered; it should be awaiting painters next time we are at the shack. Roger G3PVU was busy sorting boxes of valves ready for our next surplus equipment sale hopefully at the end of October. Les helped move obstacles so Andy could finish off painting the fence; there is enough paint to do another coat when we are next … Continue reading →

Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 13/06/2021 by G4STO04/07/2021

There was a good turnout at the club on Saturday which enabled us to work in three areas: the car park, the painting and sorting equipment recently donated to the club. The members levelling gravel in the car park were Andy M0IYE, Stuart M7RSF, David M7OYN.and Richard M7RKK. On painting duties were Claire XYL of M7RKK, Steve M5ZZZ, Les G1LQB and Pam G4STO, she reached the parts Claire couldn’t. The sorting out of equipment Roger G3PVU with an occasional hand from Pam G4STO who was also on cooking duties. I’m not sure what had to be done to the mast … Continue reading →

Another successful Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 05/06/2021 by G4STO04/07/2021

When I arrived at the shack this morning Stuart M7RSF and Les G1LQB were already there; Andy M0IYE arrived soon after for the briefing!! Once Steve M5ZZZ arrived with the brushes we were able to get on with the painting and managed to give both sides of the fence separating the shack and car park a first coat; next week it will be the east fence and probably a second coat on the west fence.   I said ‘we’ I didn’t actually wield a brush; I was Safety Officer, photographer, tea girl and cook this week.

Saturday morning working party at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 02/06/2021 by G4STO04/07/2021

When I arrived at the shack around 10am Andy M0IYE was already on his knees and working on the mast. I had taken my pressure washer to try and make light work of cleaning the shack and shed; it did but it turned out to be very greedy on water. Once the shack was clean I decided to clear the gutters; Andy said he would do that but I wanted to do something other than take photos!!  Good job I did or Andy wouldn’t have got the fence sorted by home time.  The bucket of ‘muck’ was from just the … Continue reading →

Shack Maintenance

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 22/05/2021 by G4STO04/07/2021

Andy M0IYE and Steve M5ZZZ were hard at work washing down the shack ready for a coat of paint when I arrived this morning.  It is intended to have working parties every Saturday morning, weather permitting, until the work is done.  Why not get your working clobber on and join the party?

Another successful Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/06/2019 by G4STO13/06/2019

The 2nd June was another busy Saturday morning at the shack; this week concentrating on getting the new pulleys on the trailer mast in readiness for the satellite station’s aerials.  Murphy’s Law dictated that the trailer to be worked on was the one blocked in by the other so work started early getting both trailer masts on to the carpark.   Old pulleys were removed with the aid of an angle grinder and new pulleys fitted.  Somehow I managed to miscalculate the food for the Sausage and Burger Night and had half a dozen burgers and a dozen sausages left over … Continue reading →

GB5DAM Dambusters Memorial Station

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/05/2019 by Steve29/05/2019

We once again operated GB5DAM a station to remember the RAF aircrew, German civilians and POW’s killed during Operation Chastise, the now famous Dambusters raid. RAF 617 Squadrons raid on the Ruhr Dams, using the bouncing bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. We started operating at 21.20 the time the first wave of Lancaster Bomber took off from RAF Scampton, The first contact was Bob VP8LP in the Falkland Islands on 20m, then as is tradition we began the run on 40m which within 2 calls created a huge pile up ( thanks for the cluster spots!). Around 2 hours into … Continue reading →

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE SHACK

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 28/05/2019 by G4STO28/05/2019

A lot gets done on a Saturday morning at Lincoln Short Wave Club and this morning was no exception.  I started my morning washing the chairs ready for the sausage and burger night on Wednesday and then got the BBQ out. Another week it could well be the start of the satellite project.
