Today Thursday the 17th of August was our scheduled visit to the Radio Room at East Kirkby. Club members Steve M5ZZZ, Steve G7JHU, Brian G4HIV and Dave G1WVO all met up in the NAFFI before opening the radio room. We had a steady flow of visitors through the Radio Room although there were no taxi runs today due to the very busy Bike Night last night. It was a lovely sunny morning on Thursday 15th June when Lincoln Short Wave Club met at East Kirkby for their monthly opening of the Radio Room. Sadly, club chairman Steve M5ZZZ was unwell and was unable to attend. Club members Ant M0HAZ and his wife Sylvia M0SJB, Steve G7JHU, and David G1WVO were available to talk to those visiting the Radio Room. David G1WVO completed the repairs to the Vintage Lancaster radio equipment by fitting a revamped headphone, morse key lead and antenna lead. EK Visit 7th July 2022

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/07/2022 by G4STO07/07/2022

Lincoln Shortwave Club Chairman Steve M5ZZZ and David G1WVO travelled across to East Kirkby this Thursday.  After a convivial coffee in the NAAFI they opened the Radio room at East Kirkby. Steve took his own Yeasu FT487 radio and connected it up and a precautionary SWR check was carried out on the new wire antenna which proved to be excellent. It was amazing that as Steve then tuned through the bands there was no apparent noise on the bands which we have been dogged with since reopening the station after lockdown. Steve and David heard only a few stations on … Continue reading →

Filming at East Kirkby

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 05/10/2021 by G4STO09/10/2021

North One TV, who are in the process of making a programme outlining the design, specification & the crews of the  WW2 Lancaster bomber, asked our club to help with a CW sequence during which their anchor man Guy Martin would familiarise himself with the vintage Marconi R1155/T1154 & send a short message in morse using a ‘bathtub’ key.   Quite a tall order for a man who is an ace on a motor bike but has never touched a morse key in his life before or operate a vintage radio!    Our club team decided to set up a temporary station in the control tower using the call GX5FZ & Guy would communicate with it from our nearby Lancaster facsimile station, equipped with a serviceable R1155/T1154 in our East Kirkby ‘Shack’ using the call GB2CWP.  Guy, as you can imagine, was full of enthusiasm, determination to get the job done to the best of … Continue reading →
