Sausage and Burger Night

In his wisdom Andy, our Activity Officer, programmed the Sausage and Burger Night for 29th May, the first day in months that it rained!! Luckily Pam, our Chief Cook and Bottle Washer had enough influence to make the rain stay away so we could enjoy the evening under the stars!! The BBQ was lit and burgers were almost ready when members arrived and the sausages were soon to follow. It didn’t take long for the cheesecakes to be found and devoured in the village hall. GB5DAM Dambusters Memorial Station

We once again operated GB5DAM a station to remember the RAF aircrew, German civilians and POW’s killed during Operation Chastise, the now famous Dambusters raid. RAF 617 Squadrons raid on the Ruhr Dams, using the bouncing bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. We started operating at 21.20 the time the first wave of Lancaster Bomber took off from RAF Scampton, The first contact was Bob VP8LP in the Falkland Islands on 20m, then as is tradition we began the run on 40m which within 2 calls created a huge pile up ( thanks for the cluster spots!). A lot gets done on a Saturday morning at Lincoln Short Wave Club and this morning was no exception. I started my morning washing the chairs ready for the sausage and burger night on Wednesday and then got the BBQ out. Another week it could well be the start of the satellite project.

Another Foundation Course

The LSWC are running another of their popular Foundation courses. The course is being run by our trainer, Les G1LQB, on Saturday’s 20th and 27th of July, with the exam at 4pm on the 27th. Cost is £45 which includes the exam fee. This price also includes 6 months membership to the LSWC. This will allow you to take part in any of the events we have planned during that time. This Weekend, 11th May, The LSWC put on a Special Event Station at Ellis Mill, GB5EM, for Mills on the Air. This is an annul event for the club each year and again the weather was on our side. Les G1LQB and Steve M5ZZZ Loaded up the equipment on the Friday afternoon ready for a 9.30 start on the Saturday morning. Quiz

More Social Events was one suggestion in a recent survey at the club so Activity Officer Andy, G0FVI , compiled a General Knowledge Quiz. Unfortunately it was not as well supported as was hoped but those taking part had an enjoyable evening. The quiz wasn’t easy but we had a laugh and a packet of crisps if nothing else!!! The winner was our Chairman Steve, M5ZZZ and he didn’t have sight of the questions beforehand!! Sorry Steve isn’t in focus!!!!

Special Event Stations This Week & More

Lincoln Shortwave Club have a number of special event stations over the next week. This Week On Saturday 11th May the club is putting on a Special Event Station at Ellis Mill GB5EM for Mills on the Air; setting up from 0900 hours. Ellis Mill is on Mill Road, Lincoln, LN1 3JJ. On Thursday/Friday 16th/17th May GB5DAM – Dambusters Memorial Station will be on air from the shack; operating will commence at 2120 and if there are enough operators will go through the night until 12 noon on the Friday. Surplus Equipment Sale

The Surplus Equipment Sale on 24th April was well attended by club members and visiting amateurs from around the county and north of the Humber; Hull. Steve M5ZZZ, Ian G4EVK and Stephen M5SJM arrived early to get the room set out and make repairs to some of the tables; Peter 2E0FGA helped with the booking in of items. Simon 2E0DXE and Steve M5ZZZ assisted our resident auctioneer Bob G7AVU by finding the items for sale and collecting monies which Stephen M5SJM our Treasurer happily accepted. Antenna Assembly, Hy-Gain AV-640

Saturday morning a team of members, Roger G3PVU, Dave G0BEN, Andy 2E0OYQ (Congrats on the new callsign), M5ZZZ (for getting it out the shed and also going out and getting the wall bracket) & Simon M0SIY, set about assembling an antenna that has been in storage for a few years at the club.
