Fir Park Show 2019 GB5FPS

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 04/07/2019 by M5SJM26/08/2025

On the weekend of the 8th & 9th June the LSWC were once again at Fir Park for the Fir Park Show 2019. Using the call sign GB5FPS we were active on the usual HF and VHF / UHF bands. The weather reports this time were not the most favourable but we pressed on getting all the kit ready on the Wednesday before. The kit was collected from the shack on the Friday by Les, G1LQB, and taken over to Fir Park. After getting the masts ready for raising he was soon joined by Stephen, M5SJM, who thought it best … Continue reading →

Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 22/06/2019 by G4STO06/02/2021

It isn’t always plain sailing when we put on Special Event Stations. On the way back to the shack after Fir Park our trailer which Les was towing had a blow-out and had to have a new tyre.  Today wheels with decent tyres were fitted ready for our next Special Event Station at Boultham Park Fair on 13th July. Pictured doing the work Peter 2E0FGA, Stuart M7RSF and Andy 2E0OYQ

Another successful Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/06/2019 by G4STO13/06/2019

The 2nd June was another busy Saturday morning at the shack; this week concentrating on getting the new pulleys on the trailer mast in readiness for the satellite station’s aerials.  Murphy’s Law dictated that the trailer to be worked on was the one blocked in by the other so work started early getting both trailer masts on to the carpark.   Old pulleys were removed with the aid of an angle grinder and new pulleys fitted.  Somehow I managed to miscalculate the food for the Sausage and Burger Night and had half a dozen burgers and a dozen sausages left over … Continue reading →

Sausage and Burger Night

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 07/06/2019 by G4STO07/06/2019

In his wisdom Andy, our Activity Officer, programmed the Sausage and Burger Night for 29th May, the first day in months that it rained!!  Luckily Pam, our Chief Cook and Bottle Washer had enough influence to make the rain stay away so we could enjoy the evening under the stars!! The BBQ was lit and burgers were almost ready when members arrived and the sausages were soon to follow.  It didn’t take long for the cheesecakes to be found and devoured in the village hall. The photos show just a few of those attending.

GB5DAM Dambusters Memorial Station

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/05/2019 by Steve26/08/2025

We once again operated GB5DAM a station to remember the RAF aircrew, German civilians and POW’s killed during Operation Chastise, the now famous Dambusters raid. RAF 617 Squadrons raid on the Ruhr Dams, using the bouncing bomb invented by Barnes Wallis. We started operating at 21.20 the time the first wave of Lancaster Bomber took off from RAF Scampton, The first contact was Bob VP8LP in the Falkland Islands on 20m, then as is tradition we began the run on 40m which within 2 calls created a huge pile up ( thanks for the cluster spots!). Around 2 hours into … Continue reading →

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE SHACK

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 28/05/2019 by G4STO28/05/2019

A lot gets done on a Saturday morning at Lincoln Short Wave Club and this morning was no exception.  I started my morning washing the chairs ready for the sausage and burger night on Wednesday and then got the BBQ out. Another week it could well be the start of the satellite project.
