Continue reading →On Wednesday the 30th of March we were treated to a very interesting talk at the Club by Dr Julian Onions of Nottingham University on modelling the Universe inside computers. He explained how this process is used alongside giant telescopes and radio telescopes to greater understand how the universe developed and how it will develop in the future. Everyone was amazed by the complexity of his work and the size and power of the super computers that he works with. The Lincoln Short Wave Club Rally that takes place on Sunday April the 10th is now all but sold out for trader tables with it only being possible to perhaps squeeze a couple more in! With that amount of tables sold it looks like there will be lots to see and buy so well worth a trip. The Rally is at, The Festival Hall, Caistor Road, Market Rasen, on Sunday April the 10th. On the 11th and 12th of March the Club had its second weekend in a row of running a special event station. This time the national special event callsign GB80LAN from the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby. The callsign commemorates the first operational flight of the Lancaster from RAF Waddington 80 years ago this month. This special national call organised by Dave Bloomfield G0KUC is being passed around the three RAF Clubs as well as the home of Just Jane at East Kirkby. The call continues to the end of the month. Lincoln Shortwave Club will be joining amateur radio clubs and individual operators world wide in commemorating 80 years since the iconic plane of WW2 the Lancaster was first used in operations and the heroism of all those who served in them next month. A nice sunny morning at the club this morning Saturday 22/01/2022 and a few members on hand to do some jobs. We first of all located the army command tent, got it out and checked it over ready for the first SES of the year GB6IBC at the international bomber command centre. A very cold and foggy morning at the club today 15/01/2022. While the less hardy members retreated to the shack a group of members helped Daron 2E0GFY to finish and tune the 20m and 17m flower pot antennas he has made to use for small footprint portable operation with a 12m fiberglass pole and a car drive on mount.
