Another busy Saturday at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 13/05/2023 by G4STO13/05/2023

Why do we leave things to the last minute?.  Today the Doubet had to be taken down and another put up ready for the SES GB80DAM.on Tuesday 16th May.  Unfortunately, this work coincided with a dog training session on the grass by the village hall so we couldn’t get on with the work until after they had gone and several of our helpers also had other commitments and had to go leaving just Les G1LQB and Marc M7DEU to finish the job, they got away cold and hungry by about 1600 hours.

Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/04/2023 by G4STO29/04/2023

It was a busy Saturday morning today 29/4/2023 at the Lincoln Shortwave Club clubroom at Aisthorpe.  One of the many jobs today was to assemble a new “pop up in a jiffy gazebo” and Hampole antenna pole bought new for portable special event station working. G4STO was so impressed with the ones borrowed for the recent special event at the former airfield at RAF Skellingthorpe that she asked the club to purchase some of their own.  Les G1LQB had got the frame pulled out ready for assembly and the two Dave’s G0BEN and G1WVO, started the assembly assisted by Brian G4HIV. Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 20/04/2023 by G4STO21/04/2023

Today Steve M5ZZZ and Dave G1WVO opened the radio room at East Kirkby. The day started by meeting new member Steve G7GHU who travelled from Chapel St Leonards to join us. After a coffee and a chat in the Museum NAFFI the day became quite busy with a steady flow of visitors in the Radio room. The Lancaster taxi season hasn’t started yet there was lots visitors and the car park was very busy. Steve M5ZZZ cleaned and dusted the shack. Then Dave G1WVO and Steve M5ZZZ started to remove the T1154 transmitter from its case to examine why there … Continue reading →

GB0VNU from the former old airfield of RAF Skellingthorpe

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 16/04/2023 by G4STO17/04/2023

I am delighted to report that an enjoyable morning was experienced at the GB0-VNU Special event memorial station held on the former old airfield of RAF Skellingthorpe (Birchwood) on Saturday 15th April 2023. On the 17th of April 1943 SGT John Duncan and his 6-crew from 50 Squadron RAF boarded Avro Lancaster ED 800 VN-C for an operation to the Skoda factory at Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. On their way to the target the Lancaster was attacked by a BF110 and alas was shot down killing all 7 crew. The aircraft crashed into soft land that was riddled with deep mine workings … Continue reading →

Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 29/03/2023 by G4STO29/03/2023

It’s well over two years since Bob, G7AVU, last visited the club, I’ve been promising to pick him up and get him there one Saturday morning but the Grand Prix kept getting in the way when I was free!!!  Saturday 25th was convenient for the two of us so I picked Bob and his XYL Kathleen up and went to the club; I took the scenic route and showed him the late G3OSs QTH, he remembered Frank.   We got to the club just before 11, Bob initially remembered Peter M0EJL by his voice and think he remembered a couple … Continue reading →
