Arthur Atkinson’s visit to East Kirkby

In July one of the Lincoln Short Wave Club Members, David Willey G1WVO heard on the preverbal grape vine that an elderly gentleman called Arthur Atkinson had an item on his bucket list that we could hopefully help him achieve. Arthur a gentleman of 97 years young was a Wireless Operator in WW2; he flew in Lancaster bombers of 61 Sqn. based at RAF Skellingthorpe nr Lincoln where he flew 34 sorties a normal tour being 30. Jamboree on the Air

Lincoln Short Wave Club put on a special event station GB0SCS for JOTA at the Scout Camp Sudbrooke on Saturday 19th October.  Les G1LQB collected the equipment from the shack on Friday ready for an early start on Saturday morning.  Graham M1DHV, Steve M5ZZZ and Andy M0IYE together with Les set the station up in one of the scout huts.  As usual Pam G4STO turned up with a bite to eat early in the afternoon. Saturday afternoon at the Shack

On Saturday 21st September Ian G4EVK gave a briefing to helpers from local clubs on the National Hamfest which is being held on the Newark and Nottinghamshire Showground on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th September. After the briefing Pam put on sausages and burgers for those present including Dora the Jack Russell!!!  For a change the weather was perfect.

SSB Field Day 2019

Once again the club was in action up at the old bomb dump, this time for SSB Field Day 2019. This year the equipment was brought up the site on the Friday evening by Les, G1LQB and Steve, M5ZZZ. Saturday morning and the rest of the group arrived Stephen, M5SJM, Andy M0IYE, Stuart M7RSF & Simon M0SIY. By 12pm the equipment was all set up and tested. Saturday Morning Down the Shack

Another Saturday morning of work took place down at the LSWC shack on Saturday (31st Aug). First of all the large trailer mast was pulled out and the smaller trailer mast moved into its new position (Roughly). Stephen, M5SJM, and Andy, M0IYE started to clear the area to the side of the shed. This is in preparation for the clubs other shed to come down and be on the same Site as the shack. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

A few items to cross off the ‘matters arising’ at our next Committee meeting.  Les G1LQB and Stuart M7RSF finished off the refurbishment of the trailer; it looks like new now.  Alistair M0TEF, Stephen M5SJM and Si M0SIY repaired and put the Doublet back up And Alistair and Stephen fitted the new capacitor to the Gap Eagle; it will be tested at Fir Park over the weekend.

Wireless Operator

David G1WVO, Peter M0EJL, Si M0SiY and Steve M5ZZZ recently helped award winning screenwriter Bob Baldwin with the technical details of a new play he was writing about a WW2 Lancaster wireless operator. The play premiered in Edinburgh on the 29th July. Bob Baldwin’s father was a wireless operator in WW2.

Boultham Summer Fair 2019

Wednesday EveningWednesday night and most of the SES equipment was loaded into cars ready for an early start at Boultham Summer Fair 2019 where we used the callsigns GX5FZ and GX6COL. Saturday MorningMembers setting up and manning the station this year were Les G1LQB, Andy 2E0OYQ, Peter M0EJL, James G0EUN, Andy G0FVI, Tom G4OSB, Fred G4HNQ, Roger G3PVU, Stephen M5SJM, Pam G4STO, Andy M0KED and Barry G4DBS from RAF Waddington ARC.  The tried and tested fan dipoles were hoisted into position and the Coleman shelter erected ready for the onslaught of visitors at 10 o’clock.
